Xhosa Reed Basket - Blue Detail

These beautiful, organically shaped baskets are handwoven by the Xhosa women in the eastern cape of South Africa. Made from river reed native to the area, baskets of this shape and style are traditionally used for collecting grains and other crops. Their free form shape makes each basket unique with sculptural like qualities, this particular piece is woven with a blue recycled plastic detail for a less traditional look.

The Xhosa women who weave this collection of beautiful baskets work as part of a community project - providing them with employment and continuing to empower the skill of basket weaving in their local township.

Each basket is unique and varies slightly in size and stripe style. Baskets range between 25 - 30cm in height and 28 - 35cm in width across the top.
