Xhosa Reed Lampshape - Dome

These structural lampshades are handwoven by a collective of Xhosa women in the eastern cape of South Africa. The internal structure is made from a strong powder coasted wire with the exterior woven from river reed native to the area. Their simple shape demonstrates the beauty in handwoven basketry - strong and sturdy they will hang beautifully in any room.

The Xhosa women who weave this collection of beautiful baskets work as part of a community project - providing them with employment and continuing to empower the skill of basket weaving in their local township.
