Cameron Platter, b. 1978, Johannesburg, South Africa. Lives and works in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. 

Cameron Platter's wood-carved chairs are an ongoing body of work that blurs the line between fine art and everyday object. 

The project begins with an exchange: Platter trades a new chair for a worn or discarded one, then uses that original as the model for his next sculpture work. Every resulting piece is a unique replica, standing on its own as a singular work of art — designed to be lived with.

These are bold, exuberant chairs, vivid with colour and provocative energy that define Platter's practice.

Platter's work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA New York, The Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, The Frac des Pays de la Loire France, Zeitz MOCAA and the Iziko South African National Gallery South Africa and has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice, Dakar and Bangkok Biennales.
