Xhosa Reed Side Table

Handwoven by Xhosa women in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, these spool shaped side tables are built on a hard wire frame and covered with river reed native to the area. The free-form construction means each table is unique, with sculptural qualities that make them as much an object as a piece of furniture.

The weavers behind this collection work as part of a community project, providing employment and continuing to pass on the skill of basket weaving within their local township.
